Add a compatible device to your home in the Google Home app

You can set up different tasks for your device to perform when you ask Google to begin a certain routine – using just your app. If Google Assistant routines are not working, you can try fixing the problem by re-registering your Voice Match in the Google Assistant settings.

Google is working a lot on automation in the Google Assistant ecosystem and they are frequently implementing new features. Obviously, we welcome it since Google Assistant Routines are, at worst useful and at best can make life so much easier and automation more accessible to regular users. Sadly, some users report that Google Assistant routines are not working for them on Android as of recently.
Check that your current location is correct in the app. For example, if you and everyone in your home has left home, the app should say that your home is set to Away. You or someone with shared access has manually changed the temperature. Instead, it checks whether you’re home or not, and there needs to be a good distance between you and your home before it switches to Away. So, if you’re visiting a neighbor, your home may not switch to Away.
Search for updates
To see Google Services Framework and Google Assistant on the list of installed apps, tap on the 3-dots menu and choose to Show system processes. Since Google Assistant is a part of the Google app and it relies on various Google services to work, the next troubleshooting step focuses on that. The initial step should include clearing the local data from the Google app, which will reset it. In case you are still experiencing issues with Google Assistant routines, check the next step. The next thing that some users suggested is changing the language to English (U.S.). It seems that even regional variations of English won’t cut it in some regions. To check Home/Away Assist settings for your camera, open the Nest app tap Settings Home/Away Assist Home or Away your camera. Then, check whether automatic switching is turned on. Set your camera to not automatically switch as you come and go. If you use the Nest app, go to Settings Home/Away Assist tap your camera on the screen toggle the switch to turn automatic switching off for your camera. You can automate home devices and take care of everyday tasks with Home & Away Routines in the Google Home app.

To update the Google Home app, you just need to open the app store or Play Store and type Google Home. From there, just click the update button if you already have the Google Home app installed. It will take about 5 minutes to update the application depending on your network. Once both the mobile device and the Google Home app are up to date, you can add your routine again to check if it is working properly. If you are on an Android device, you can go to app settings and select Google Home to find the ability to clear the app cache. This action can help prevent frequent app freezes or crashes.
